I have fought a good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing
2 Timothy, V 7&8
Today, we gather to celebrate the life of our dear friend Mr. Kodwo Hayford, whose radiant smile and infectious laughter brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
I met Mr. Hayford through my ex-husband Dr. Ebow Coleman. In effect, he was our best man at our wedding in 1994 and he has held this position until his passing. A good and faithful friend!
What I admired most about Mr. Hayford was his genuineness, unwavering optimism – even in the face of tough challenges, he remained resilient, finding light in the darkest of moments and being a pillar of strength and a source of encouragement for us all. His voice was strong till the end.
He was the one who would call and check up on you. “Barbara, otse den, wo ho ye a?…..and that’s how the conversation started and he ended by saying I will come looking for you… His voice was deceptive, in that should you visit after his call, you would wonder whether it was the same person you spoke to.
He was a good man, very generous and good company to be with.
Our hearts are broken but we all know that you have been unwell for sometime now. As we bid farewell to you, we will remember the cherished memories we shared. Though you are no longer with us your spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
Indeed, Mr. Hayford has gone to rest, as he has fought a good fight and finished the race.
May the good Lord grant him peaceful rest until we meet again. Amen
